I noticed that you can get a certain number of referrals depending on the upgrade status, if for example I have 1000 ref direct and 3000 ref rented in diamond, what happens to my referrals if I let the upgrade expire since in standard and golden it are granted a smaller number, remain frozen until a new upgrade to the diamond or are lost up to the limit number granted?

Nothing will happen to them, but you can't rent more or get new direct referrals anymore.
